Race Day Info August 2018

Good evening Athletes,
I hope this email finds you well and prepared for the race of the year next weekend!

Lots of sleep in the bank will be required and just in case you did not know, we have a papal visit above all things and methinks the roads will be super busy so please take care and allow more time than is usual.

We try to accommodate everybody, so even if you find yourself delayed, please still continue on and we can let you start.

Number collection will be on Friday evening at Mc Loughlin’s Bar, Achill Sound from 7pm and on Race mornings 20 minutes before the Start.

Ultra and early starts at 8am, Half Marathon and Full 9am.

Location on both days for ALL competitions is at The Hy Breasal B&B, St Fionans Rd. Achill

There will be plenty of water and fresh fruit at 5 of the water stations. Please feel free to have some items dropped out to Mile 2/11, Mile 3, Mile 5, Mile 8.
The warm weather and the salty liquid air of Achill tends to draw out even more Salt !!!! so bring a few salt tabs if you’re in the habit also, we will most likely have some kind of midge onslaught , it will only last a few minutes, head buffs and a shot of repellent should ward them off !
There is plenty of Parking available at the B&B Start/Finish area.
Please do not park anywhere near the Achill Coastguard.

St John Ambulance will be out and circulating the course as well as fully trained Marshals and Stewards.

Achill Back to Back July 2018

Number Collection at Micky Lavelle’s Seaside House, Dooega Achill will take place on Friday July 20th between 7pm and 9pm, alternatively on Race Mornings starting from 7:30am and up to 15 minutes before the race. There is no number collection Saturday evening.

Start Times:

21st/22nd July

Ultra: 8.00am
Full Walkers: 8:00am
Full Runners: 9:am
Half Runners 9:00am

Water Stations and Drop Bags
Filtered Spring Water and fresh Fruit will be available, please use the drop bag facility and label items if you want them transported out onto the 13 Mile course.

Items  can be handed in before 7:45am. The drop boxes are then positioned at  Mile 3, Mile 6, Johnny Pattens Bar  and Start Finish area.

Toilets will be located at the Boxing Club, Johnnie Pattens Bar and at the Start/Finish area.


Please lets keep in with the Faery people and place your empty bottles and gel wrappings at bins/mile markers (and not in ditches, bogs, or Ocean)

There is no cut off time for the day unless directed by medical personnel.
Please bring some insect repellant ! 2 times out of 5, the faery people have sent swarms of midges to keep athletes on their toes, and is also and indication of scorching weather, Salt tabs and Sunblock might be needed !
